Current Board Member at the Wilmette Theatre
Charles joined the board of the Wilmette Theatre (AKA Wilmette Theatre Education Project NFP) in 2021. Since 2021 the Wilmette Theatre has been on an upward trajectory. The board and staff have worked hard to turn an iconic member of the community from a struggling business into one which holds its own, in an industry where small local venues close their doors forever, all too often. Leadership, Commitment, Exploring new ideas, Driving results, Teamwork has given the Theatre new life and a bright future.
Former Chairman of the Wilmette Historic Preservation Commission
Charles joined the Wilmette Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) in 2014 and was nominated to Chairman in 2016 serving until 2022 when his term expired. During his time, the HPC landmarked numerous local residences, and worked with residents while navigating the somewhat tricky and technical aspects of renovating a landmarked building. During his tenure, the HPC successfully worked to preserve the formerly undiscovered Stran-Steel House from the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair “Century of Progress” exhibition and worked with Small Cheval on signage and remodeling of the Chicago and NW Passenger Depot. Commitment to our community, Driving results, Teamwork, Understanding, Utilizing expert knowledge allowed for a productive time in saving many architectural wonders around us, while still allowing things to change and move forward.
Former President and Board Member of the Wilmette/Kenilworth Chamber of Commerce
Charles joined the local Chamber of Commerce in 2016 and held the office of Treasurer and President during his tenure. During his time on the Board, the Chamber was engaged and focused on the business community. As a result, Downtown Wilmette went from being slightly below average to a gem of the north shore. By 2024 Wilmette became a destination for dining and shopping. The Chamber of Commerce worked with government officials and business owners during the Village’s discussion regarding Illinois' new minimum wage and healthcare law. The Chamber worked with Village leaders on driving business into local retailers and was in constant contact with owners, residents, and government officials during the Covid-19 shutdowns. Through it all, the Chamber remained the voice of our local businesses, helping to promote and expand opportunities for residents to explore. Leadership, Commitment, Innovation, Teamwork, Communication, Driving results all lead to a more active, engaged, and responsive business community.
Charles Hutchinson is a husband, father, and pet owner. He and his wife raise their three children in Wilmette where he works and where all three kids attended SFX through 8th grade before going to New Trier High School.
Charles volunteers much of his time around the community. He has been a volunteer coach in kids athletics for numerous years, and has/does volunteer his time for the Village of Wilmette, the Wilmette/Kenilworth Chamber of Commerce, The Wilmette Theatre Education Project, and Saints Joseph and Francis Xavier Church.
Charles is a practicing attorney in Illinois working with families primarily in the North Shore area handling Estate Matters as well as Property Tax Appeals.
